Why visit Val di Cornia?

Facing the island of Elba, Val di Cornia is a valid alternative to traditional tourist destinations: the southernmost part of Costa degli Etruschi offers extraordinary excellences, places not to be missed, a magical and exhilarating atmosphere.

This valley is an oasis of peace, ideal for walking, cycling and hiking, rich in archaeological parks and museums.

Here where once the ancient Etruscan and Roman civilizations were born, today art meets culture and nature, but also wellness, sport and food and wine.

In this land you will find enchanting landscapes among hills full of thick vegetation and a sea with pristine beaches, many of which have been awarded the Blue Flag Beaches.

The best way to get to know this land is to stay in one of its ancient villages: Campiglia Marittima is one of the most beautiful.

Medieval village: "borgo"

You can find the most authentic Tuscany in the ancient medieval villages called "borghi" : small jewels between the hills and the sea. In Val di Cornia one of the most beautiful "borgo" is Campiglia Marittima: a lovely village a stone's throw from the coast, located on a hill of centuries-old olive trees that smell like sea. In this ancient medieval castle rich in history and traditions, the streets, the paved alleys and the buildings, arranged in concentric semicircles, give a sense of great harmony. The historic center is all gathered within the walls, and on its characteristic squares overlook artisan shops, museums and taverns. Do not miss the nearby villages of Bolgheri, Castagneto Carducci and Massa Marittima.

Spa

Val di Cornia is a territory rich in spas, springs and wellness centers, ideal places to relax and tone body and spirit. Very famous and appreciated are the thermal baths of Venturina Terme and of

Sassetta.

The thermal waters of Venturina were known already in antiquity with the name of Aquae Populoniae. In the Etruscan period the inhabitants of the city of Populonia used it and later the Romans, who appreciated its curative properties even more.

The Terme di Sassetta are instead located in a more intimate and private setting, surrounded by a dense Mediterranean scrub forest.

The Beauty of Coast and Sea

The coast of the Val di Cornia is characterized by sandy beaches alternating with stretches of rocky cliffs surrounded by pine forests and thick Mediterranean vegetation. Anyone can find here his "corner of paradise": if you are looking for beach life, or just a little relaxation, if you love to venture into the many bays that enrich the coast, or you look for the "safe" sea for your children, this is the place for you!

one of the most precious resources of the Val di Cornia, but not only ... you can taste fruits, vegetables, legumes and cereals, often obtained with organic farming techniques, as happens in the companies belonging to the Associazione Val di Cornia Bio, and various types of hand-made foods such as honey, cheese and salami. Among the typical products of this land we find violet artichoke, spinach, tomato, as well as marroni marmalade. There are numerous companies in the area where it is possible to taste the different varieties of wine and buy other agricultural products directly.

The production area is also included in the Consorzio Strade del Vino e dell’Olio Costa degli Etruschi which has an online booking service to visit the cellars.
